Living Life Without Revelation

Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law. Proverbs 29:18 (NKJV)

We are told within the New King James Version of God’s Word, “Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but happy is he who keeps the law” (Prov. 29:18).   This same verse in the New Living Translation states, “When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.”

Q:         So what exactly is Revelation?

The word revelation simply means to reveal or uncover — it is the unveiling of a body of knowledge formally hidden from the receiver of knowledge.  God has given us General Revelation through His Written Word (the Bible), so all men might be governed, guided, and instructed in how we should live our lives in accordance with His perfect will (Rom. 12:2).

It is through the preaching of God’s Word where we learn of God’s grace, mercy, and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.  It is through His Word where we learn of His pardon of our sin, and the resulting peace coming from our regeneration.   Unfortunately, there are many people who have been saved by hearing the Word of God, but they have never followed this up with regular church attendance or given any regular time to Bible study.

There are great consequences for one not allocating time to rightly divide the Word of God to know His will and truth.  Many people have fell victim to the lies of the enemy through false religious teachings — some being brought to their very door.  While other Christian believers have become idle and have ceased from doing God’s will — some even becoming self-indulgent, stubborn, poorly mannered, ungovernable and rebellious to their superiors.  They have cast off restraint simply because they have no revelation (vision) of God’s will for their lives, and subsequently they begin to lose God’s blessings.  When we seek the wisdom of man verses the wisdom of God, it is much like the blind leading the blind.

I want to encourage you to think and pray upon this today.  Choose to make time each day to learn from God’s General Revelation (the Bible) — given to you so you can know what His perfect will is for your life, and so you can be blessed abundantly.

STUDY QUESTION:  According to Proverbs 29:18 what happens when there is no revelation?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you hungry to hear or study the word of God?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Discipline yourself to be faithful to study God’s Word and attend a church that faithfully teaches it.

LET’S MAKE THIS OUR PRAYER TODAY: Father, thank You for Your Word.  Thank You for revealing to me what You want us to receive and apply to our lives.  Help us to understand Your will as we read it each day.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be blessed, Pastor Scott
