It Starts With You and Me

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.” Matthew 5:13 (NKJV)

Often times we can find ourselves very discontent with how things are going in our country.  We can look at our nation's morality, alcohol, drug, and pornography statistics and begin to feel dejected, powerless and even angry with those who hold political offices. After all, we tend to hold these people responsible for what transpires, as leadership is a key factor in shaping a nation.

With this in mind we can find ourselves passionately involved in sharing our ideas and views about political candidates before, during and even after the election.  There are always those who are eager to voice their opinion about an elected official's inability to do what should be done—at least from their point of what should be done.

Let me just say this — as Christian men and women—we are called to be aware of what is going on in our world, and as such, we have a responsibility to vote for what we feel is best when we are given the opportunity to do so.  But we can have a far greater impact on our nations, states, cities, neighborhoods and in our very home if we simply abide in what God has called us to do as His followers.

God gave a foolproof plan with His personal guarantee for cleaning up a failing country — we can see it in 2 Chronicles 7:14.

…if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV)

It is we — who profess to be followers of Christ — who ultimately hold the ability to make the difference, and it starts by first cleaning up our life.  We are the ones who must be willing to humble ourselves and seek the Lord in earnest prayer.  We must turn from our wicked ways, and then God will hear our prayers and He will heal this country.  Jesus said we are to be the “salt” of the earth.  Salt flavors, but it also preserves and slows decay.  But if we are not going to live in a way God is leading us to live then we will lose our saltiness, and we will be good for nothing and equally responsible for the decay of our nation.

I want to encourage you to think and pray upon these things today. Choose to focus on doing your part to be salty, or Christ-like. God is on the throne and He can restore this nation if each of us is willing to do his or her part.

STUDY QUESTION: According to 2 Chronicles 7:14 what must we do if we hope for God’s grace, mercy and restoration of our country?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you willing to humble yourself each day, repent of any sin in your life, and earnestly seek the Lord in prayer to heal this nation?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Focus on being salty today by abiding in God’s Word, and adhering to His will for your life.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Father, thank You for Your promises of blessings and for Your great mercy.  Show me any area in my life where I need to repent today.  I humble myself and ask for You to fill me afresh with the Holy Spirit—lead me and strengthen me to walk in the spirit and to be the salt of the earth. In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

 Blessings upon your day, Scott
