Now as he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are beside yourself! Much learning is driving you mad!” But he said, “I am not mad, most noble Festus, but speak the words of truth and reason. Acts 26:24-25 (NKJV)

I remember back in 1985, I was wanting to share Jesus with others out in the off-road racing community.  I had my sponsor and friend, Dick Hochreiter of Gear Racewear, make me a custom jersey.  On the front of the jersey were the words, “Powered by Jesus.”  Well, I was excited, and a bit nervous, but it was time to be bold in my faith, so off to the upper desert I went.

Suffice to say, I received a mixture of responses to the message on my racing jersey.  Some ignored me, as if I wasn’t even there, while others greeted me with a look of with disgust.  And still others went out of their way to talk as filthy as possible.  I guess God was preparing me to learn how to properly defend the Gospel.

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 1Peter 3:15 (NKJV)

Some of my friends eventually came up and talked to me, but they all thought I had gone too far. Some thought I had become right-wing crazy for God. The way I looked at it, I didn’t think it was crazy for accepting Jesus’ payment for my sin.  I didn’t think it was crazy for accepting God’s offer to have a relationship with Him either.  Actually, I think I would have been crazy had I not received these things.

No, I truly believe that my decision was a reasonable one — one of a sound mind and understanding. When you think about it, it’s also reasonable to give our life to the Lord and to live for Him (Rom. 12:1). It would be unreasonable and selfish not to.  It is reasonable for us to share with others what God has freely given to us.  Again, it would be unreasonable and selfish to do otherwise.

I give God all the glory for my ability to be bold back then, and now as well.  I thank Him for giving me a heart to love others enough to share Jesus with them.  I have made many mistakes along the way, and undoubtedly, I will fall short again, but I am now more committed to living for God than ever.

How about you, are you crazy for Christ?  Do you think it’s reasonable to sacrifice, so others might be saved and experience eternal salvation?  Does this sound like craziness to you, or do you think it’s reasonable?

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you today to keep your eyes on the Lord and the things of God.  Let’s not allow the enemy distract us or conform us to the ways of this world.

STUDY QUESTION: According to 1Peter 3:15 what are we to do?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Have you sanctified the Lord in your heart?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Make Jesus your first love and seek to have a relationship with Him.  Everything else will fall into place.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Father, thank You for allowing me to have a relationship with You.  Thank You for guiding me and leading me in all understanding. Help me to be a light so others may know You personally and be saved.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
