Establishing Your Thoughts

Commit your works to the LORD, And your thoughts will be established. Proverbs 16:3 (NKJV)

Let’s face it, life is packed with choices — some are minor choices, whereas others can have great consequences or blessings attached to them.  So how do we make good choices to ensure we will be blessed?  How can I make the right decision, and have peace with my choice?  I am sure everyone has dealt with this at some point, and for some this can be a daily occurrence.  Sometimes the contemplation of these decisions can cause what I refer to as, “Paralysis of the analysis.”  This is where we have so much information we can’t decide what to do.  It’s like rush hour traffic in our head with all our thoughts racing around—we just sort of get that dear in the headlights look about us, and we don’t end up doing anything, because we can’t decide.

Thankfully God knew we would find ourselves in this quandary at some point, and He gave us great counsel to guide us through our decision making process.  We are told to commit our works to the Lord, and our thoughts will be established” (Prov. 16:3).

This is so simple, yet so profound for us in our Christian walk.  If we would make it a main priority to commit everything we do as unto the Lord then He would establish our thoughts to guide us in making wise decisions. As we read His Word and allow it to soak in our mind we will be equipped to glorify God in all we do; God will then create the perfect outline using the Scriptures to guide us.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you today to be committed to doing everything in a way to bring honor and glory to God.  May others see God in all you do, and may they want to know Him because of your selflessness.  Let’s ask ourselves,“Am I doing this particular thing to bring glory and honor to my Lord?” And, “Am I doing in a way as if I were doing it for Him?”  Making our decisions should always be done with God in mind (Col. 3:17, 23; 1Cor. 10:31).

And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men…Col. 3:23 (NKJV)

STUDY QUESTIONS: According to Isaiah 55:8-9 what can we learn with respect to our thoughts and ways compared to God’s?  According to Proverbs 16:3 and Colossians 3:23, how should we be living our lives here on earth?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you committed to doing everything today as if you will be doing it for Jesus?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Make it your goal to commit everything you do as a witness to your love for God.  Be willing to share Jesus with anyone at anytime and allow God to use you as a vessel of honor.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Father, Thank You for this profound truth and fantastic tool to help guide me in my walk.  Lord help me to remember each morning to think about committing everything I do as if I were doing it for You.  Guide my decision-making, and use me today as a vessel of honor.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…
