His Grace Is Sufficient

His Grace is Sufficient

Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work. Romans 11:5-6 (NKJV)

It's hard to fathom the magnitude of God's love for us as His children.  We think we know, but I don't really think we fully understand the magnitude of it.  I think most of us are so entranced in our fleshly way of thinking; it is all but forgotten in our day-to-day activity.

God loves us so much, that He allowed His "ONLY" begotten son, Jesus, to be nailed to a cross, spit upon, physically struck, mocked, ridiculed, beaten, and cursed at so that we may be reconciled unto Him.  What if we were to put one of our loved ones in this position and allow this to happen to them; how do you think we would feel towards those who had done this?  Would we be feeling love?  I think not.  We, as humans, cannot possibly possess this kind of love by ourselves - It is only the Agape love of God.

As Christians, we need only to look at the sin within our own life to realize God's divine love in bestowing His unparalleled Grace upon us.  When I think about this it is mind-boggling!  No matter what I have done in the way of sin, God has forgiven it, meaning He'll remember it no more.  It's as if it never happened.

As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. Psalms 103:12 (NKJV)

This is huge for us to consider, because we live in a world that rewards each according to "their" efforts and work.  According to God's Word we do not have to do extra work to make up for our shortcomings of sin by being a better Christian.  We don't have to compare ourselves to others in their walk with God.  We are not judged by the articulation of our words or the length of our prayer.
God loves us unconditionally and there is nothing we can add in and of our own efforts to make Him love us more.  This is what Grace is all about - It's "unmerited favor."  We never earned His grace in the first place so how can we now begin to do something in our flesh that will increase it?  This is exactly what Paul was asking the Galatians.

Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? Galatians 3:3 (NKJV)

Hey Christian, I want to encourage you today; let's not base our worth on our performance.  Let's not allow the enemy to place this lie within our mind - tempting us to act upon it (2 Cor 10:5).  Let's remember what God's Word says about our sin - where it abounds, grace abounds more (Rom. 5:20).

Q:    So does this give us a blank check to sin all we want since God forgives us with His grace?

No!  We see this truth being stated clearly in Romans.

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Romans 6:1-2 (NKJV)

We should never take God's grace for granted.   We should always feel conviction from the Holy Spirit when we do sin, as this is a healthy indicator of His working within our life.  We just need to act upon this feeling of conviction by repenting and confessing of any sin within our life immediately.  God loves you and is there for you.  You don't have to earn it you just need to walk freely in it.
STUDY QUESTION:  What does Romans 11:5-6 tell us about Grace and works?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Have you found yourself frustrated at times in your Christian walk because of falling short, and been tempted to stop trying all together?

APPLICATION: Keep a post-it-note around reminding yourself of scriptural truths stating God's love for you and of His forgiveness of your sin (John 3:16).  Keep notes on Scriptures declaring your salvation is by grace alone through faith (Eph. 2:8-9).  This will keep a healthy perspective of our standing with God at all times.

Father, thank You for Your grace upon my life.  I acknowledge today, that I can't earn your love by any works or efforts on my part, and that Your love for me is by Grace and by what Jesus has done on the Cross of Calvary.  I thank You and I praise You for loving me in this way.  Help me to love others in this same way with the help of Your Holy Spirit in my life.  In Jesus' name, amen...
